Pros: All, apart from the autofocus

Cons: Af

Opinion: Bought used at a ridiculous price, unfortunately I have not clearly now what to do. The AF is unusable if not for almost static subjects (and I'm talking about a use on 5d Mark III). The image quality is very good, the weight is subjective, the internal zoom is very comfortable, the sharpness satisfactory, rendition of the colors idem (this also leaves the time that finds seen the possibilities of modern post production). Essentially an appreciable optics, with unfortunately an AF not abreast of the times. Impossible to use in avifauna, perhaps with a little ' hand and a good dose of luck you can use it to make us sport. It remains the use in good light with subjects in light movement. Certainly do not make us minimo\\maximum in a fraction of a second, little but sure. Surely on €1000 there is no alternative, if not the Canon 300 2.8 massacred whose spare parts are unavailable. Nikon offers several alternatives, but here too I have not quite clear the situation regarding the spare parts. To summarize is a good optics if you settle and you do not have in mind to chase the birds in flight or motorcycles on board, maybe buying with the money you save a good 150-600 recently produced with AF modules of discrete quality for when you have to chase , and this for more static use.

Pros: Versatility, construction, sharpness

Cons: Bracket arretratarn

Opinion: Purchased used today, has much to say, given the price / performance / versatility ratio. Versatility, and uniqueness in the world, with its maximum constant aperture of f2.8 in the focal length range 120 - 300. Examined its sharpness at maximum focal length, intuitively can no longer compete with the best fixed achievements Nikon and Canon, but this does not mean that it is not situated on satisfactory values. We start from the 300 mm, drawing on the surveys that made the monthly TuttiFotografi: at full aperture the average value (which takes into account each portion of the image) slightly exceeds factor 7, but at the center "holds" already a dazzling 8. The peak yield is obtained at f7.1, and this behavior is reflected almost at all focal lengths. With a warning, however: up to 150 mm there is a slight decrease in the diaphragms f3,2 and f3,5 (so, you can mnemonically give the motto: "up to half of the excursionand focal open; then, diaframmare ") In summary, however, always speaking of sharpness is a lens that can not say that it is never less good at any diaphragm, focal length is a portion of the image, and this is not a little. tripod, removable, is very backward, which does not help.It lacks a drawer filter holder, and its very generous diameter / lens means that in Nikon the continuous light of the auxiliary illuminator is partially obscured.Excellent construction, pleasant bokeh, discreet contrast. As for post-production, the Photoshop Adobe Camera Raw module contains a correction profile for this lens, while Phase One Capture has developed one for the latest stabilized version.rn

Pros: very versatile and sharp lens even at room temperature, good contrast and focus. not very fast yet accurate AF with the Canon 30D and 1DIII. maintains excellent prstazioni also with 1.4X canon

Cons: apart from the weight that feels to bring her in and not use freehand (well balanced) I noticed a decadiemnto prestazoni of AF with the 7D (new AF module Caon and old firmware sigma?). my copy loses much blows when multiplied with 2X sigma but I still have not figured out if it's all his fault.

Opinion: in all a great lens both in absolute terms and in value for money. is not put into crisis even from extremely dense sensor of the 7D (at least not known anything 30x45 prints that I did for a show a couple of years ago, I did not get ther). only real problem the lack of precision AF with the 7D maybe baterebbe a aggornamento firmware but I prefer to keep her well with 1DIII
